Sīmantonnayana means parting the hair upward. In the last trimester the husband parts his wife's hair with udumbara fruit, porcupine quill and Viratara wood, reciting Bhūr, Bhuvaḥ, Svaḥ. Its stated purpose is the healthy development of the child and a safe delivery.
You may know it as Seemantham, Valaikappu or Godh-Bharai; it is the same rite.
