The first of the samskaras. Sanskrit garbha (womb) and ādhāna (receiving): a private rite marking a couple's intent to have a child, performed before conception. Its roots are in Ṛgveda 8.35.10–12 and 10.184.
It is a quiet ceremony, usually for the couple alone.
