Rakṣoghna means, literally, that which causes rakṣasas to be driven off and destroyed. The Rakṣoghna Sūkta is prescribed for the founding of a new temple and in building — which is why this rite attaches to a site rather than to a person.
Families ask for it where a place has felt disturbed, or before building on ground whose history is unknown.
