Sri Lakshmi and Sri Ganapati invoked together: prosperity sought at the same time as the clearing of what stands in its way. In practice it is the rite families ask for when a venture is both new and financial.
Where an occasion is purely a beginning, Ganapati homa alone is usually the appropriate rite. I will say which fits.
